Today’s headlines read: Dental care provider is offering to cover $200,000 to cover dental care for all patients with dental issues article A local dental office that treats dental cavities is offering an $800,000 discount to all dental customers who sign up for a dental care plan, according to a local ABC affiliate.
Dental practices around the state have been scrambling to get back on track since the Affordable Care Act, or ACA, became law.
They’ve been offering discounts to cover the costs of filling cavities, which can be painful and expensive for some patients.
But the discount is for a single-person plan, which is less expensive than a family plan.
The dental office has been offering the discount to dentists and other dental professionals in the area for several weeks.
“We have dental students that are able to sign up, so that’s how we have a pool of people that can afford to fill a cavities,” said Bob Hausman, executive director of the Delta Dental Association, which represents Delta dental schools in Montgomery County.
Hausman said the discounts are an important step because dental care is often overlooked in the health care system.
“We’ve heard about dental care being overpriced,” he said.
“We’re seeing that not just in dental care, but in other areas of health care as well.”
Delta dental schools have a $1.3 billion operating budget, which covers dental care in the dental clinic, dental school, dental offices and other health care needs.
Hensman said Delta is working to make sure that dental care providers get the most bang for their buck, which includes the discounts.
“There are other areas that are not covered in the Affordable Health Care Act,” he added.
The Delta Dentists’ Association and Delta Doral Academy in Montgomery, which have a combined enrollment of approximately 25,000 students, are offering the discounted plans to all enrolled students, including the families of Delta dental students.
