Tesla Motors has revealed a new battery pack that it says will deliver up to 4,000 kilowatt hours of energy per battery pack.
The news comes just days after it released a video that showed the company’s new lithium-ion battery, dubbed the “Mojave” by Tesla CEO Elon Musk.
The new battery was released to the public this week.
Tesla CEO Elon Trump has said that the new battery will be ready for commercial release within a few months.
“It’s ready for mass production,” Musk told CNBC in an interview earlier this week, adding that it’s a “big step up from the Mojave” battery pack used by Tesla.
Tesla’s new battery has been a long time coming.
It debuted in September of this year, but Musk’s announcement of the battery came only a week after the company announced its first electric vehicle.
The battery pack has been made by Tesla’s sister company Panasonic.
Musk is also the chairman of Panasonic’s board of directors, and the company has made some of its batteries and solar cells for Tesla’s vehicles.
Tesla says the new pack has a capacity of about 1,400 kilowatts.
The new battery is the first of its kind, and Tesla says it will help it to increase battery capacity.
The company said in a statement that the “high power density” of the new lithium ion battery means it can “power a car in a matter of hours” if the battery is left in a charge for a few days.
Tesla said it will start shipping the battery pack to customers next week.
The first deliveries will come in late 2018, with the rest of the company launching deliveries by 2020.
