AARP is asking Americans to apply for $25 discount dental plans, which could help consumers pay for out-of-pocket expenses.
The nonprofit agency said in a letter sent Monday that it’s calling on Americans to use the $25 discounts to avoid costly co-payments, deductibles and out- of-pocket medical costs for dental care.
The agency also said it’s encouraging people to use these discounts on dental coverage at home, where coverage can be more affordable.
AARP said it expects to start accepting applications from July 1.
The program is part of a broader campaign by the White House and the Department of Health and Human Services to help Americans save money and avoid health care costs.
HHS said in May that the new dental benefits will go into effect Jan. 1, 2018.
It is also encouraging Americans to save on their health insurance by making contributions toward the Affordable Care Act’s coverage expansion, known as the COBRA, and to sign up for free or reduced-cost insurance.
